Leona A. Leistner, 95, of Evansville, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Parkview Care Center. She was born in Posey County, IN, to the late Oscar and Charlotta (Lottie) Hillenbrand.
In her early years, Leona worked at Servel. In addition, she worked on the family farm taking care of her parents and grandparents. She tended garden with vegetables and flowers and quilted. She made many beautiful quilts, starting in her early childhood days until her nineties. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ for many years....

In her early years, Leona worked at Servel. In addition, she worked on the family farm taking care of her parents and grandparents. She tended garden with vegetables and flowers and quilted. She made many beautiful quilts, starting in her early childhood days until her nineties. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed seeing all of the congregation and catching up with the news through the church bulletin. She moved to Leisure Living about 12 years ago, enjoying her new family of friends and activities. She loved baking kuchens, rum cakes and pies for all of the activities. She continued on with her life at her new home at Parkview, playing bingo and cards, enjoying music, parties and lots of treats!
Leona "Little Woman" Leistner was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Ervin Leistner.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Leistner and Ed (Cindy) Leistner of Evansville; sister, Oliva Leistner of Tell City; niece, June (Pat) Peter of Tell City; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andy) Esparza, Michael (Megan) Leistner; great-grandchildren, Grant Esparza, Landon Leistner, Bentley and Rowan Bell; step-grandchildren, Jason Kennada (Tammy Hagan), Katie (Chris) Hosack, and step-great-grandchildren, Kyrstin and Kinley Hosack.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Parkview Care Center and Southern Care Hospice for their tender loving care.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, with Pastor Paul Seburg officiating. Friends may visit 2:00 to 7:00PM, Friday, October 14, 2016 at Alexander West Chapel and Saturday from 10:00AM to service at the cemetery.
