Obituary


Walter C. Winnecke, 93, of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at VNA Deaconess Charlier Hospice Center. He was born February 21, 1922, in Evansville, IN, to the late Julius and Wilhelmina (Belo) Winnecke.

After graduating from Reitz High School, Walter joined the U.S. Army where he served his country in England, France, Belgium, and Germany for 37 months from November, 1942 to December, 1946. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart in January, 1946.

Over the years, Walter worked several places including Servel, Bendix, Westinghouse and Whirlpool...

Walter C. Winnecke, 93, of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at VNA Deaconess Charlier Hospice Center. He was born February 21, 1922, in Evansville, IN, to the late Julius and Wilhelmina (Belo) Winnecke.

After graduating from Reitz High School, Walter joined the U.S. Army where he served his country in England, France, Belgium, and Germany for 37 months from November, 1942 to December, 1946. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart in January, 1946.

Over the years, Walter worked several places including Servel, Bendix, Westinghouse and Whirlpool before retiring from the Parks Department. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ (downtown) and loved playing golf as well as attending his children's and grandchildren's activities.

Walter was preceded in death by his son, Steven Walter; sister, Clara Kraft; brother, Edgar; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Aline (Waterman) Winnecke; daughter, Sharon Beck (Joe); son, Stanley; daughter-in-law, Pamela; grandchildren, Markus Winnecke (Christy), Shelley Tweedy (Craig), Ryan Beck (Jamie) and Jennifer Beck (fiancé, Shawn Staggs); great-grandchildren, Logan, Tyler and Bella Winnecke, Adalynn and Graden Beck and Loretta Tweedy; brothers, Ralph Winnecke (Shirley) and Robert Winnecke (Mary); and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at Charlier for the loving care they gave Walter.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 3, 2015, at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel officiated by Pastor John Branam with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday, 4-7 PM at Alexander West Chapel and Friday, 10:00 AM until service time at the cemetery.
